I have to do a MOT retest : how does it work ?

To begin with, you have received a red inspection certificate, or even a green inspection certificate with a reduced validity of 3 months. From there you have to go to a professional car garage and have anything that did not pass the inspection repaired.

When should I get my vehicle repaired?

If you have not passed the MOT test, three cases are possible:

  • You have received a red inspection certificate with a traffic ban:

Your vehicle has serious defects, which endanger the driver and other road users. For example: your brakes do not work anymore. You can no longer drive. Your vehicle must be taken to the nearest garage and repaired immediately.

  • You have received a red visit certificate with a validity reduced to 15 days:

Serious technical problems make your vehicle unsafe. You therefore have less than two weeks to have your vehicle repaired. Please note that if you received a red certificate valid for 15 days on March 1st, you must return to the center BEFORE March 15th.

  • You have received a green visit certificate with a validity reduced to 3 months:

A non-compliance has been found. You must remedy this within 90 days. Afterwards, go to a technical control center for validation. Attention, if you received this certificate on March 1st, you must go to the revisit before June 1st.

I had my vehicle repaired, what next?

After having your vehicle repaired, you must return to the same inspection center within 15 or 90 days. If your garage has correctly completed all the necessary repairs, your vehicle will receive a green inspection certificate.
